Antique Italian .800 Silver & Enamel Lipstick Case

This well-maintained, antique, silver and enamel lipstick case from Italy features a beautiful river scene with a Victorian-style woman in a lovely gown, seated under trees on the shore. This is one of the prettier scenes that I have seen while researching this piece.

This is from the 1920s - early 1930s or so when these lipstick cases became popular as an Art Deco accessory. Beautiful hand enameled scene, with the border enamel meant to simulate lapis lazuli. The stone which is the opening clasp, is cabochon lapis lazuli, or a similar stone. The entire case is covered in hand engraved details. Open the case by sliding, and a mirror pops up. This case works perfectly and even includes the original bright red lipstick (most likely used)!!! Marked 800, with a maker's mark on the other side. Length of this case is approximately 2 and 1/8 inches. This piece is in fantastic condition with just normal usage.
