Antique Meridian Sterling Silver Dresser Vanity Trinket Basket With Glass Insert.
Marked with Meridian phoenix hallmark and “Sterling 55." Pressed glass insert with starburst pattern on bottom.
Dates to late 19th or early 20th Century.
Filigree footed sterling filigree basket frame with blank cartouche for personalization. Tarnish to be removed at Buyer’s discretion.
The fish scale or fan pattern with a bundled bamboo border may date as early as 1898, to the Oriental Revival period when “Japanese" (or what people thought was Japanese) designs were the rage, such as in Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Mikado" or Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly."
